LeadingAge issued an urgent action alert on July 7 calling on all aging services stakeholders to contact their senators and urge support for S. 4814, legislation that would require DHS to redesignate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and extend protections through January 2029.
The urgency stems from a June 25 Supreme Court ruling clearing the way for the administration to end TPS for Haiti — putting work authorization for thousands of direct care workers at risk as soon as July 10. For providers already operating under severe staffing shortages, the ruling threatens to deepen the crisis overnight.
S. 4814, introduced by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) with 18 cosponsors, has a House companion bill — H.R. 1689 — that passed with bipartisan support. Stakeholders are urged to contact their senators now and ask them to cosponsor and vote for S. 4814. Take action today!
